GFM-110 chair (afromosia) designed by E. Homa
The GFM-110 chair was designed in the 1960s by Edmund Homa for Gościcińska Fabryka Mebli. This model appears very rarely on the antique market, and if it does, it is usually made of beech wood. Our chair is absolutely unique. It was made of Afromosia. The chair has undergone a complete carpentry and upholstery renovation. The wooden structure is finished with hard (colorless!) oil-wax and the seat with natural leather.
The specimen we offer probably comes from the early 1970s, as it was part of the furnishing in Hotel Forum (today’s Novotel Warszawa Centrum), which was built in 1972–1974 in Warsaw. Unfortunately, as we found out, most of the furniture from the hotel rooms was destroyed after the building was taken over by the Novotel chain. The hotel staff saved a few copies. We also present a photo from the National Digital Archive, which shows what the interior of one of the hotel rooms looked like, in which a GFM-110 chair stood!
On the website of the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, the chair is marked with the number GFM-134: http://aiw.asp.gda.pl/?page_id=20611.
