“Spider” chair designed by M. Chomentowska

The chair No. 288 so called “Spider” is the icon of Polish mid-century modern design from 1956 (some sources indicate 1957). It is one of the most recognizable accomplishments of Maria Chomentowska. A small series of this model was made at the Bent Furniture Factory in Radomsko for the Polish Institute of Industrial Design. The uniqueness of the chair’s form obtained thanks to the use of bent plywood, in our opinion, puts this piece of furniture next to works designed in the USA also from plywood by the Eames duo.

One chair luckily landed in our hands and is now available in our store. The chair undergone a complete carpentry renovation.
