From today we will present favorite furniture from our collection.
The first chair is the icon of Polish mid-century modern design from 1956 (some sources indicate 1957). The “Spider” chair is one of the most recognizable accomplishments of Maria Chomentowska.
A small series of this model was made at the Bent Furniture Factory in Radomsko. One chair luckily landed in our hands;).
The uniqueness of the chair’s form obtained thanks to the use of bent plywood, in my opinion, puts this piece of furniture next to works designed in the USA also from plywood by the Eames duo.
Maria Chomentowska (born on June 14, 1924 in Warsaw, died on March 7, 2013 in Lublin) was a leading representative of Polish functionalism of the 1950s and 1960s. For over 20 years she was associated with the Institute of Industrial Design (1951–1977) and later with the Catholic University of Lublin.
