Bookshelf of Institute of Industrial Design (IWP)

8,000.00

This bookshelf was designed in the first half of the 1950s for the Institute of Industrial Design. It is attributed to Irena Zmudzinska, based on an article by her “Furniture for ZOR Apartments” which appeared in the IWP Bulletin in 1956. However, the article, in our opinion, does not unequivocally confirm her authorship of the furniture. The bookshelf is also referred to differently in various studies. The article cited above calls it “segmented shelves.” In turn, the study entitled “How to furnish an apartment” from 1960 (Arkady) calls the same piece of furniture a “secretary” (photographs from the study in the gallery).

Despite the confusion with the nomenclature and the lack of clear confirmation as to authorship, for us it is a very handy bookshelf with a small size and a light, graceful shape. And like the vast majority of the items we offer, it is a very rare, unique piece of furniture.

The bookcase is made of ash wood. We have subjected it to a thorough carpentry restoration and finished it with a hard oil wax neutral color.
